The Tampa Bay Rays hope to clinch the series with the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday as they host their second game back at the newly-reopened Tropicana Field.
Monday saw the Rays pick up an emotional 6-4 win, and the MLB odds indicate they’re expected to replicate that with Drew Rasmussen on the bump.
My Cubs vs. Rays predictions have MLB picks for the side and total for Tuesday, April 7.
Who will win Cubs vs Rays today: Rays moneyline (-128)
Drew Rasmussen’s increased cutter usage is a key reason for his strong start. He’s picked up a whiff rate of 29.4% with the pitch, utilizing it 7% more than last season.
Tuesday he faces a Chicago Cubs lineup whose .340 xwOBAcon and .213 xBA are fourth-worst in the bigs.
Yandy Diaz is setting the table for the Tampa Bay Rays with a .395 xwOBA and a .489 OBP. As a team, they rank fifth in xBA and wOBA, and sixth in slugging.
They’ll score runs against Javier Assad, making his first start after posting a 4.86 xERA and 4.69 xFIP last season.
Cubs vs Rays Over/Under pick: Over 7.5 (-115)
Tampa Bay has consistently been going over the total this season, even when the opponent hasn’t been contributing.
Monday’s 6-4 win marked the eighth Over in 10 games to start the season and I expect that trend to continue. Assad will likely get punished by the top of the order, especially if Diaz gets on-base in front of Jonathan Aranda.
The Cubs bullpen has a 4.63 xFIP and 5.41 xERA. Tampa Bay has seen its pen far even worse, with a 4.94 xFIP and 6.08 xERA. Both rank in the bottom third, and late runs will push the total north of the number.

How Real Madrid beating Bayern Munich in Champions League quarter-finals will benefit La Liga
The UEFA rankings of various top European leagues decide the number of berths allocated to each country for the succeeding edition of the UEFA Champions League.
As it stands, the Premier League is in clear first-place with 24,791 points while La Liga sits second with 20,281 points.
As the two top-placed leagues, England and Spain are currently in a position to have the top 5 teams in the league qualify for the UCL.
The Bundesliga, however, follows La Liga closely with 19,428 points and are within touching distance of catching up.
Should they overtake La Liga, the German league will earn five spots while La Liga will only see the top four earn a spot in the UCL.
Real Madrid’s role
As reported by AS, Real Madrid’s game against Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League will play a direct role in shuffling the rankings and deciding which league gets the upper hand.

La Liga, in that sense, needs Real Madrid to win and advance to the semifinal of the competition.
One Spanish team will certainly advance between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, and Real Madrid eliminating Bayern will thus seal La Liga’s edge.
Should Real Madrid lose, however, the Bundesliga will be rewarded points on the rankings and close the gap even more. A lot will then depend on which league’s team progresses deeper in the event.
For Spain and La Liga, Real Madrid winning over the two legs thus offers the easy route to securing five berths in the event.
All eyes will thus be on Alvaro Arbeloa’s side tonight in a game where, for a change, they do not enter as favourites.
Devils captain noncommittal on future following GM firing
Nico Hischier was noncommittal on his future with the Devils when asked a question if general manager Tom Fitzgerald’s firing changes his “mindset moving forward.”
“I’m focusing on playing hockey here and I still have one more year,” the Devils captain said. “So, I’m with the Devils right now and then we’ll see what happens.”

The 27-year-old center is in year six of a seven year, $7.25 million contract and is eligible for an extension on July 1, 2026.
This isn’t the first time Hischier has been noncommittal on his Devils future this season. He gave a coy response when NJ.com asked him in October whether he’s given any thought to his looming negotiations.
“Not yet, I have two more years,” the former No. 1 overall pick said at the time, with a smirk.
Devils -1.5 puck line is listed at +200 on DraftKings for Tuesday’s game versus Philadelphia. Our DraftKings Sportsbook review provides an in-depth guide on how to use their site.
Hischier is part of an impressive 2027 free agency crop, which is set to feature names like Quinn Hughes, Cale Makar and Nikita Kucherov. His name will be up there with the best of them.
New Jersey fired Fitzgerald amid another (likely) playoffless season. This is the fourth time they’ve missed the playoffs in Fitzgerald’s six seasons. Hischier has made the playoffs just three times in nine seasons.

Barcelona's 20-Year Home Streak Against Atletico
Barcelona has not lost to Atletico Madrid at Camp Nou since February 5, 2006, accumulating 18 wins and seven draws in that span. Despite their poor Champions League record against Atletico, the Catalans have the momentum after beating Diego Simeone's men in their most recent encounter.
Atletico holds the advantage of better-rested players, with Simeone having kept his starters fresh for the crucial European tie. Flick's Barcelona will look to dominate the first leg at home before traveling to Madrid for the second leg next week.
