College Football NIL Market Doubles in Two Years

The college football NIL market has nearly doubled in two years, with Power Five conferences now spending tens of millions annually to retain top talent as competition intensifies.

According to NIL data provider Opendorse, Big Ten schools are expected to spend an average of $48.2 million annually across all sports this year, with the SEC following closely behind at $44.5 million. The ACC and Big 12 are projected to spend around half those figures at $29.4 million and $24.3 million respectively.

This represents a significant increase from just two years ago when Ohio State coach Ryan Day estimated his program needed $13 million in NIL money to retain its roster. The financial requirements to compete in high-major college football have seemingly doubled almost every offseason for the last five years, driven by a win-at-all-costs mentality that shows no signs of slowing down. xsportfeed.life
