PLATTSBURGH — Saranac got two goals from Ryan Campbell Tuesday night and edged out a 2-1 win over Northeastern Clinton in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference boys’ hockey.
The Spartans (7-11, 3-3) play at Saranac Lake/Lake Placid tonight with third place in the CVAC and the No. 3 seed in the Section VII Division II Tournament on the line.
“I thought our effort was sub par tonight, and we didn’t work hard enough to get around their defense and get to the net,” Saranac coach Robby Knowles said.
“I give full marks to NCCS. They’re always working hard, giving 100%, and that’s why they’ve been competitive in every league game this season.”
Following a scoreless first period, Cobe Lafountain gave the Cougars the lead with 7:02 gone in the second.
Campbell then tied the contest with only 49 seconds remaining in the period, and scored the game-winning goal at 10:30 of the third.
Carson Holland recorded the win in net with 23 saves, and Greyson Lafountain had 24 stops for the Cougars.
“Both goaltenders played well and came up with timely saves to bail their teams out,” Knowles said.
