Per New York Rangers beat reporter Mollie Walker, Matt Rempe is having another procedure done on his hand and will be going back on injured reserve.

Rumors previously circulated that Rempe was suffering from a broken thumb sustained during an on-ice bout with Ryan Reaves of the San Jose Sharks in late October. A broken thumb would make sense, as many having pointed out that it appeared one of Rempe's hand makes hard contact with Reaves' helmet during the previously mentioned fight. Rempe was then placed on long term injured reserve.

However, Rempe did initially return to action for the Rangers back in December, January and February.

Rempe, 23, is a budding young enforcer in the NHL. He has 11 points across 85 games played (five goals, six assists).

Walker first made the post surrounding Rempe's latest developing procedure to her X account on the afternoon of Feb. 20.

Rempe currently averages 7:58 TOI per game.

The Rangers' Head Coach of Mike Sullivan is currently also the head coach of Team USA's men's ice hockey team in the ongoing Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games. Team USA recently defeated Slovakia — 6-2 — in the semifinal to qualify for the Feb. 22 gold medal game against Canada.

The New York franchise is currently in dead last amidst the Metropolitan Division with 50 points and a 22-29-6 overall record. The Rangers return to league play following the Olympic break on Feb. 26 against the Philadelphia Flyers.
