Feb. 21—WAGNER, S.D. — On the strength of a 48-point second half, Wagner took down Platte-Geddes 79-66 in boys basketball action on Friday night at Wagner High School.
The visiting Black Panthers led 40-31 at halftime, but the Red Raiders outpaced them by 22 points over the final 16 minutes.
Carlos Galindo and Ky Arpan each netted 24 points and five rebounds to lead Wagner, as Galindo also had three assists and Arpan tacked on two steals. Jesse Zephier tallied 19 points and four steals, and Michael Koupal chipped in seven points, seven rebounds and two steals.
Isaac Leader dropped in a game-high 28 points with five rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Black Panthers, while Jameson Leader notched 15 points and seven rebounds. Jye Bailey totaled 12 points, four rebounds and two steals, and Ziggy Duffy had nine points.
Both teams wrap up their regular-season schedules on Feb. 23, as Wagner (14-5) visits Beresford and Platte-Geddes (11-8) hosts Todd County.
Ashlyn Koupal ensured her Senior Night ended with a Wagner girls basketball win on Friday night.
The Red Raiders' lone senior put her fingerprints all over the performance, as Wagner dispatched Platte-Geddes 58-30 at Wagner High School to finish the regular season with a 17-2 record.
Koupal recorded 29 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, six steals and two blocks, while Braxton Nedved added 12 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Red Raiders. Ravyn Medricky scored six points, and Mateya Bruguier contributed five points and five rebounds.
For the Black Panthers, Kori VanDerWerff offered 13 points, four rebounds and one block, as Taylor Schrank tacked on 10 points and two steals.
With region playoffs starting next week, Wagner will be the top seed in Region 5A, while Platte-Geddes (7-13) enters the Region 6A bracket.
* Howard knocked off Arlington 67-49 for a road win. Brody Spader had 25 points and eight rebounds, hitting five 3-pointers for the Tigers, who also had 13 points and six rebounds from Owen Feldhaus and 10 points and eight rebounds for Kolt Becker. Paxton Rheault scored 23 points and had 13 rebounds for the Cardinals. Howard led 27-19 at halftime but scored 27 points in the third quarter to build the winning cushion.
* McCook Central/Montrose scored a 50-34 win over Elk Point-Jefferson on Friday in Elk Point. Dawson Dorr had 19 points and 21 rebounds for the Fighting Cougars, with 12 points and five assists for Ben Wiebersick. EPJ's Brody Van Roekel had 12 points for the Huskies.
* Colt Keiser had 21 points and 20 rebounds as Gregory topped Bon Homme 53-50 at home on Friday. The Gorillas had 16 points from Lincoln Juracek, as well. Madden Merkwan scored 15 points and Ethan Wagner had 13 points for the Cavaliers.
* Mobridge-Pollock was a 40-31 victor over Winner in Mobridge. Easton Eisemann had 16 points for the host Tigers, and Shooter Frederick tallied 10 points for M-P. Winner's Zac Olson had 13 points and Sam Steele had 10.
* Four Wessington Springs players landed in double figures as the Spartans won on the road at James Valley Christian 76-60 in Huron. Colby Flowers had 19 points, Parker Graff tallied 16, Wesley Molnar had 12 points and Logan Mebius scored 10 points, moving Springs to 15-4 this season.
* Class AA No. 4 Huron defeated No. 5 Watertown 61-56 at the Huron Arena. Blake Ellwein had 25 points, eight assists and seven rebounds for the Tigers, who had 13 points from Anderson Porisch, as well. Huron was 20-for-27 on free throws to help overcome a 37% shooting night. Carter Buisker had 20 points and six assists and Jackson McClemans had 19 points for the Arrows.
* Wessington Springs closed the regular season with a 13-7 record thanks to a 54-27 win at James Valley Christian. Kenzie Kolousek scored 13 points and Kendall Kolousek had 10 points for the Spartans.
