Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who spent some time in Florida with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, now has a potential law named after him that could be on its way to becoming official.
The Teddy Bridgewater Act was created in an effort to allow high-school coaches in the state of Florida to use up to $15,000 of their own money to help support student-athletes with items such as food, transportation and recovery services.
The legislation passed through the Florida Senate. It now heads to the state House of Representatives. If it passes there, it goes to the desk of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to be signed into law.
During his time as head coach at his alma mater Miami Northwestern, Bridgewater helped pay for Ubers and food for his team and asked fans to also help him pay for the services. He was suspended for his actions after leading the Bulls to a state championship in 2024.
"When I decided to coach, those players became my sons and I wanted to make sure that I just protect them in the best way that I can," Bridgewater said. "Miami Northwestern is in a tough neighborhood and sometimes things can happen when kids are walking home and different things like that. So I just tried to protect them, give them a ride home instead of them having to take those dangerous walks."
He later resigned as head coach and returned to the NFL for the 2025 season, joining the Buccaneers. He came on in relief of an injured Baker Mayfield in Tampa's 34-7 Week 12 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.
Bridgewater, 33, is set to become a free agent in March. Bridgewater has played 11 seasons in the NFL. In addition to the Buccaneers, he has time with the Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos and Detroit Lions.
Bridgewater is 33-32 in his career as a starter. For his career, he has thrown for 15,182 yards, 75 touchdowns and 47 interceptions.
