Vitor Pereira holds transfer belief around Morgan Gibbs-White amid Manchester City talk

Long-standing transfer speculation concerning Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White, including from Manchester City, has sparked a fresh response from his manager.

The Forest captain has once again found himself at the centre of interest, with the past 12 months seeing Gibbs-White’s situation evolve from tentative links with the Premier League’s traditional ‘big six’ into a full-scale transfer storyline.

Now 26-years-old, Gibbs-White has become the creative fulcrum of Nottingham Forest, shouldering responsibility both on and off the pitch while guiding the club through domestic and European challenges.

That development has kept Manchester City firmly attentive, having held long-term admiration that dates back more than a year when the player was internally discussed as a possible heir to creative duties currently being shared by senior midfield figures.

While other recruitment priorities briefly took precedence, recent months have seen his name re-emerge as Manchester City quietly assess options ahead of a potentially transformative summer window with regards to midfield – amid doubts over Bernardo Silva’s future.

Speaking to reporters ahead of Nottingham Forest’s UEFA Europa League last-16 play-off second-leg against Fenerbahce, manager Vitor Pereira has been quizzed on the future of Morgan Gibbs-White.

“I’m not hearing this. Every day is work. I feel they are very committed to our target, which is the most important thing. He is a top player, the captain, the top player with the true spirit,” Pereira insisted.

He continued, “That’s why I accepted the job, because I have very good players.

“We need to prove every day in the work and we need to prove on the pitch, in the games, that we don’t have just the talent in the team, but we create a strong team together.”

Forest’s confidence is underpinned by the player’s contract situation, following his decision last year to commit long-term amid heavy interest from Tottenham Hotspur. That agreement significantly strengthened the club’s negotiating position and reflected Gibbs-White’s belief in the project, even as speculation intensified.

From City’s perspective, any future move would be part of a broader midfield recalibration as Pep Guardiola’s squad faces key decisions around succession planning, and Gibbs-White’s blend of creativity, intensity and Premier League experience fits the desired profile.

For now, however, the message from the Nottingham Forest camp is one of unity and focus in a week where European football takes centre stage, and as such transfer narratives get shifted firmly into the background.
