The Seattle Mariners made it as far as they have ever made it last season, reaching Game 7 of the ALCS against the Toronto Blue Jays.

While they didn't win and make it to their first World Series, this roster is more than good enough to contend in 2026. But, even with a stacked starting rotation, the Mariners might need another high-profile starter.

Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller predicts that the Mariners will go out and trade for 3.42 ERA All-Star Minnesota Twins righty Joe Ryan. With some slightly questionable depth, Miller is predicting Seattle adds the top pitcher trade target in the middle of the season.

"(Joe Ryan) Ends Season With: Seattle Mariners," Miller writes. "... Seattle is one report of 'forearm tightness' away from potentially needing to swing big for an ace-caliber arm, while also needing it to be an arm with a salary figure that doesn't break their bank."

With some slight concerns about the rotation's depth if there were to be an injury, the Mariners could be a clear fit for Ryan in a trade this offseason. He's a great starter and could be a quality top-flight starter for the next two seasons.

The Twins veteran right-hander is 29 years old and coming off a strong 2025 season, where he had a 3.42 ERA in 30 starts. He finished with 4.5 bWAR and recorded 194 strikeouts in 171 innings pitched.

While the Mariners' current rotation, with Luis Castillo, Bryan Woo, Logan Gilbert, George Kirby, and Bryce Miller, is already a set five-man rotation, the depth could be an issue.

Emerson Hancock and Dane Dunning might be forced into a prominent role this upcoming season if there's an injury. Logan Evans is out for the year, and while they have a few options, if the Mariners lose a top flight starer, they'd be in a bad spot.

Instead, the Mariners could splurge on someone like Ryan, adding an ace-level pitcher to an already stacked rotation, giving the Mariners what the Los Angeles Dodgers used to their advantage in their World Series run.

Having extra starting pitchers can't hurt, especially with the Mariners rotation already dealing with some slight depth concerns.

Ryan would cost a lot to acquire. But if the Mariners are ready to go all-in for the 2026 and 2027 seasons, then Ryan would be a great trade target for Seattle this season.
