The New England Patriots may be considering a big move involving wide receiver Stefon Diggs in the upcoming weeks.

Diggs is scheduled to carry a $26.5 million cap hit for the upcoming season. However, New England could save $20.8 million in cap space if it decides to release Diggs with a post-June 1 designation.

Patriots insider Chad Graff from The Athletic wrote on Friday that one league source believes New England may cut Diggs unless they're able to restructure his contract.

"Given that contract, one league source expects the Patriots to cut Diggs unless they’re able to dramatically lower his cap hit with a reworked contract," Graff wrote.

If the Patriots decide to part ways with Diggs, Graff has identified New York Giants wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson as a potential replacement.

"The options to replace him via free agency aren’t great," Graff added. "There’s skepticism about whether Alec Pierce will make it to the open market. The other top options would be Mike Evans or Wan’Dale Robinson."

Robinson has been in the NFL since 2022, accumulating 2,465 receiving yards and nine touchdowns over the course of 54 games.

The 25-year-old wide receiver would be a solid addition for the Patriots, but they would likely need to bring in another top receiver to complement him. This might mean trading for one or selecting another in the 31st pick of the 2026 NFL Draft.
