Aston Villa Keen On Signing Bundesliga Sensation In Three-Way Bid: Do Midlands Club’s Third-Place Chase Give Him The Perfect Platform?

Three Premier League clubs have their eyes on the same player. The name Max Moerstedt makes headlines across English football right now. A report from SportsBoom says Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and West Ham United have all shown serious interest in the 20-year-old Hoffenheim forward. His Bundesliga form has put him on the map for some of the league’s most ambitious teams. It looks like the race for the German youth international’s signature will be a real battle once the summer window opens.

Premier League Trio Chase Hoffenheim’s Max Moerstedt as €25m Price Tag Emerges

Moerstedt’s path to the top is a great story. Things didn’t quite work out for him at Bayern Munich’s academy, so he headed to Hoffenheim at the start of 2021. He tore through their youth ranks. By early 2024, the club threw Moerstedt into the senior side. He has played 40 first-team games since then. This season, he has already bagged four goals in just 380 minutes.

That kind of efficiency shows exactly how dangerous Moerstedt is in the box. Hoffenheim know what they have, so they locked him down with a new long-term deal at the start of 2026. Still, that hasn’t stopped the Premier League rumours. The club want between €20 million and €25 million for him. They won’t even look at offers that come in below that mark.

As of February 26, 2026, Aston Villa sit third in the Premier League. They are balancing a Europa League run with a fight for the top four. Moerstedt seems like more than just a random target for them. Unai Emery wants a specific type of forward. He needs players who can press hard, find pockets of space, and move fast on the break.

Moerstedt fits that mould perfectly. Ollie Watkins is the main man in Villa’s attack, no question. But Tammy Abraham has been hit-or-miss as a backup. Villa need a long-term plan for their frontline, especially if they have another big European campaign next year.

The timing of this move is what makes it interesting for Villa. Newcastle need a striker right now. West Ham have a different setup entirely. Villa, though, are in a spot where they can let a 20-year-old find his feet without needing him to carry the team on day one. Moerstedt is the exact type of high-potential attacker Villa like to develop.

They’d rather build a player up than just buy a finished product for a huge fee. At €20 million to €25 million, he’s also right in their price range. Villa want to stay in the Champions League and build a squad that lasts. Getting a player like Moerstedt before his price hits the roof isn’t just lucky; it’s smart business.
