Rennes centre-back Jérémy Jacquet (20) will undergo surgery after sustaining a serious left shoulder luxation during Les Rouge et Noir‘s 3-1 away loss to Lens on February 7. Ouest-France reports that Jacquet’s growing pains points to him undergoing a surgery. The reports suggests that his chances of featuring one last time for his formative club before embarking on his career’s next step on Merseyside are extremely slim.
Of course, both Rennes and Jacquet wanted to be dispensed from such a radical outcome, but the future Liverpool centre-back’s pain tests were inconclusive, and surgery remained the only option. Ouest-France reports that Liverpool were in close contact with Jacquet and the Ligue 1 side. The Reds have reportedly played no part in this decision and left the final word to Rennes and their player.
With Jacquet set for weeks on the sidelines and Rennes’ season to end on May 16, the chances to see the player featuring for Franck Haise’s Bretons are slim. Jacquet will then join Liverpool on July 1st after the Premier League side had completed a €72m move to sign the highly-rated French centre-back.
