Tennessee State basketball wins share of first OVC regular-season tit… — and more

Tennessee State basketball wins share of first OVC regular-season title in 32 years

For the first time in 32 years and only the third time ever, Tennessee State basketball finished at the top of the Ohio Valley Conference regular season standings.

The Tigers, under first-year coach Nolan Smith, beat host UT-Martin 67-42 on Feb. 28 to finish tied for first with Morehead State in the final conference standings.

TSU (21-9, 15-5 in OVC) and Morehead State split during the regular season, and TSU won the tie-breaker to earn the No. 1 seed in the OVC tournament (March 4-7) in Evansville, Indiana.

TSU will receive a double bye into the semifinals of the conference tournament. The Tigers' first game will be on March 5 at 7 p.m. (ESPNU).

Aaron Nkrumah led TSU with 20 points, and Travis Harper added 16, helping the Tigers jump to a 35-21 lead late in the first half and never look back.

Matas Deniusas led UT Martin with 13 points.

TSU, one of the top defensive teams in the OVC, caused fits for UT-Martin's offense. The Tigers recorded 13 steals and forced the Skyhawks to commit 19 turnovers.

UT Martin (21-10, 13-7) was tied with TSU for first in the OVC standings earlier this month but lost five of its last seven games.

It was TSU's second win over UT-Martin this season, but the earlier game was much closer with the Tigers claiming a 78-71 victory at Gentry Center in the OVC opener on Dec. 18. Nkrhmah also led TSU in that game with 23 points.

Tennessee State posts most wins in its NCAA history

The 21 victories are the most for Tennessee State since transitioning from NAIA to NCAA Division I in 1977-78.

The Tigers won 20 games in 2015-16 under coach Dana Ford and in 2011-12 under John Cooper.

TSU also set a school record for OVC wins in a single season with 15.

The Tigers finished the regular season on a four-game win streak and won seven of their last eight.

Tennessee State eyes first NCAA tournament berth since 1994

TSU needs to win two games in the OVC tournament to earn its second berth in the NCAA tournament.

The Tigers' first time in the NCAA tournament came in 1993 after winning the OVC tournament under former coach Frankie Allen. TSU lost to Seton Hall 81-59 in the first round of the NCAA tournament that season.

Allen led TSU back to the NCAA tournament in 1994, and the Tigers lost to Kentucky, 80-73.

TSU has advanced to the OVC tournament championship five times, its last coming in 2012 when the Tigers lost to Murray State 54-52.

Official | Marseille interim president after boardroom reshuffle

Olympique de Marseille have announced in an official statement the appointment of Alban Juster as President of the club’s executive board on an interim basis following the likely upcoming departure of Pablo Longoria.

The decision was taken by the club’s Supervisory Board and forms part of a temporary organisational structure while the process to appoint a new permanent President of the Directoire begins. The Executive Board will now consist of Juster, former Inter Milan CEO Alessandro Antonello and Benjamin Arnaud, with the latter newly appointed as a member of the board.

Juster has been at Marseille for eight years, most recently serving as Director General of Finance & Compliance. Arnaud, who has been part of the organisation for seven years, will continue his duties as Secretary General alongside his new position on the Executive Board.

In a statement, Marseille explained that the interim structure has been put in place to “ensure administrative, financial and operational continuity, with the club continuing to pursue its sporting and economic objectives.”

Who is Taylen Green? Arkansas QB sets records with vertical, broad jumps before running 4.36 at NFL combine

Arkansas' Taylen Green broke a pair of NFL combine records Anthony Richardson Sr. set in 2023 before going No. 4 overall in the draft.

The 6-foot-6, 227-pound Green logged a 43.5-inch vertical and leapt 11 feet, 2 inches in the broad jump, uncharted territory for quarterbacks in the event.

For reference, Richardson — listed at 6-foot-4, 244 pounds — posted a 40.5-inch vertical and flew 10 feet, 9 inches in the broad jump three years in Indianapolis' Lucas Oil Stadium.

Then Green ran a 4.36 40-yard dash, the second-fast time any QB has ever clocked at the combine.

NFL Network flashed a graphic on its broadcast comparing Green to Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf, but analyst Charles Davis quickly dismissed the notion that Green is entertaining a position switch right now.

"I just asked him very simply, 'With the day you're having and your build and everything else, have people approached you about doing wide receiver drills?'" Davis reported on NFL Network.

"[Green] said, 'No, they have not.'

"I said, 'What would you do if people did approach you to do wide receiver drills?' ... He said, 'Absolutely not. I'm a quarterback.'"

It's a sentiment many athletic quarterbacks before him have shared, most notably two-time NFL MVP Lamar Jackson, and admirably so.

But it's important to note that Jackson was a Heisman Trophy winner at Louisville. Green, on the other hand, didn't achieve nearly the same level of success in the collegiate ranks.

Interestingly enough, though, both played under Bobby Petrino.

Green was a three-star prospect coming out of Lewisville High School in Texas. While there, he set the school record in the long jump and put up some nice dual-threat numbers on the gridiron. As a senior, Green threw for 22 touchdowns and ran for seven more.

He was the No. 660 overall recruit, including the 48th-highest rated QB in the 2021 class, according to the Rivals industry ranking.

Green committed to Boise State, where he spent the first three seasons of his college career. He redshirted in 2021 and then started a combined 22 games from 2022-23.

As a redshirt freshman in 2022, he eventually took over the QB1 job and helped the Broncos notch their first double-digit win season in three years. Green totaled 24 touchdowns — 14 passing and 10 rushing — and tossed only six picks, earning Mountain West Freshman of the Year honors.

His 61.3% completion percentage from that season ended up being a single-season career high.

In 2023, Green piloted Boise State to a Mountain West Conference title. Ahead of the 2024 season, he transferred to Arkansas, where he continued to showcase his athleticism but also inconsistency.

In six of the 12 games he played in this past season, he completed less than 60% of his passes. Additionally, Green was picked off 11 times, and Arkansas finished 2-10, although the Razorbacks were undeniably hamstrung by a defense that was eighth-to-last in the country with 33.8 points per game allowed in 2025. Still, Green's persistent scoring production, both through the air and on the ground, is noteworthy.

NFL analyst Lance Zierlein described Green's delivery as "long" and "unorthodox" in his NFL.com prospect profile while also pointing out the 23-year-old signal-caller's tendency to put the ball in harm's way.

That said, it's clear Green can create off script, and he has the talent to make all the throws and perhaps the running ability to make up for those he misses.

But he needed a head-turning performance in the combine to draw Day 2 or early Day 3 interest. He delivered on Saturday.

As Richardson has showed so far in the NFL, however, athleticism, no matter how impressive, is just part of a complicated equation at the sport's most prestigious position.

Ultimately, Green's consistency as a passer, or lack thereof, will likely make or break his pro career.

BVB’s Gregor Kobel praises Bayern Munich’s ‘quality’ in 3-2 loss to league leaders

Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel did all he could to stop Bayern Munich during his squad’s 3-2 loss to the Bundesliga league leaders.

Kobel gave up an incredible effort by Harry Kane for a goal and was victimized by a world class volley from Joshua Kimmich for another of Bayern Munich’s goals. In a penalty kick against Kane, Kobel even guessed the right way and got a piece of the attempt before having to watch it deflect off of him into the net.

Afterward, Kobel had to tip his cap to Bayern Munich

“I think you have to say that Bayern showed extreme quality in front of goal today and converted their chances brilliantly. We put up a fantastic fight. We gave it our all, tried to get the fans behind us, to be physical and make it extremely difficult for them. For a long time, we succeeded in doing that. But in the end, they’re just very, very good in front of goal. That’s incredibly frustrating and hurts terribly. In terms of performance, it was a reaction to Bergamo. Nevertheless, you end up on the pitch as the loser. That wasn’t our goal,” Kobel said (as captured by FCBayern.com).
