Texans Acquire David Montgomery in Trade for Picks and Scruggs

The Houston Texans have traded a 2026 fourth‑round pick, a 2027 seventh‑round pick and offensive lineman Juice Scruggs to the Detroit Lions for running back David Montgomery, who will become the team's lead back.

Houston’s move brings the 28‑year‑old Montgomery, who has averaged 740 yards per season with the Lions, into a starting role alongside defensive coordinator Woody Marks. The trade costs a 2026 fourth‑round pick, a 2027 seventh‑round pick and lineman Juice Scruggs.

Experts gave the deal a B+, noting Montgomery’s proven red‑zone production and the Texans’ need for a physical inside runner. With a $6 million salary, Houston hopes he can replicate his 716‑yard, eight‑touchdown season from 2025.
