Barcelona tracking 21-year-old Benfica talent – report

Barcelona’s transfer activities continue to gather pace, and a new name has now entered the conversation.

According to Fichajes, the Catalan club is closely tracking Andreas Schjelderup, the promising winger currently playing for Benfica.

The 21-year-old Norway international has impressed this season, registering five goals and three assists across 32 appearances.

Those numbers, combined with his technical profile, have reportedly caught the attention of Barcelona’s sporting director Deco, who is leading the club’s recruitment strategy.

On Barcelona’s radar

Barcelona are prioritising young, high-upside players capable of evolving within the squad rather than expensive established stars and Schjelderup fits that approach.

Naturally deployed on the wing, he offers pace, direct dribbling and a willingness to attack defenders in one-on-one situations.

His comfort using his weaker foot adds unpredictability, making him difficult to defend in tight areas.

Beyond his raw speed, what stands out is his growing maturity. Observers note that his decision-making has improved significantly.

However, any potential deal would not be straightforward, as Benfica have built a reputation for resisting negotiating and rarely sell key assets below market value.

Schjelderup’s stock has risen in recent months, which means his price tag is expected to reflect his development.

There is competition

As expected, the outlet mentions that Barcelona also face competition, as several clubs across Europe’s top leagues are monitoring the Norwegian winger, aware of both his age and his potential resale value.

His international experience further strengthens his profile ahead of what could be a decisive summer window.

Notably, Barcelona’s plan is to identify the next generation early and integrate them at the right moment.

Schjelderup’s future appears destined for a major league and the real question is whether Barcelona can position themselves ahead of their rivals.
