When the Braves signed Jurickson Profar to a three-year contract last season, the former Padres outfielder was coming off a career year and was supposed to be an important piece for Atlanta's offense. Those expectations were quickly dashed when Profar tested positive for PEDs at the start of the season.
Well, that signing is only getting worse for the Braves. Profar has reportedly tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs ... again.
According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, Profar is now facing a 162-game suspension for a second failed PED test. This makes him only the sixth player to face that punishment since MLB's heighented PED policy took effect 12 years ago. And on top of that, Profar will have to forfeit the $15 million he would have been paid this season.
He'll also be ineligible for the postseason and World Baseball Classic.

It's obviously a huge blow for the Braves with starting pitchers Spencer Schwellenbach and Hurston Waldrep already dealing with extended injuries. But really, it's shocking that a player can fail a PED test, miss half a season and then continue to take PEDs.
MLB fans were in disbelief over the news.
Unbelievable. https://t.co/5aQsM81KHi

Getting suspended for PEDs last year then doubling down this year was a bold strategy. https://t.co/VhxsmtVn0n

Profar turned a 3 year/$42M deal into a 1.5 year/$21M deal. What a complete moron.

This certainly clears up some money for the Braves to spend. But if I’m not mistaken he still counts towards the CBT number which is annoying. https://t.co/HR7WMhNpWQ
