Injuries and absences have mounted for Vanderbilt baseball, which has now lost four games in a row after a 5-4 loss to Central Arkansas on March 3.
Coach Tim Corbin said he did not have an update on pitcher Austin Nye, who left a game against Arizona on Feb. 28 after one inning due to what was termed "biceps tightness." He had been off to a good start for the Commodores (7-6).
Catcher Colin Barczi, who injured his shoulder during a win over Eastern Michigan on Feb. 18, is feeling better, but has not begun swinging a bat or playing defense.
"Hopefully he'll be able to start swinging the bat here real soon and playing catch too, which would be a good thing," Corbin said.
As for injured pitchers Miller Green and Matthew Shorey, neither of whom has pitched this season, Corbin said that Green has begun throwing again but Shorey has not.
Why Brodie Johnston was not in the lineup against Central Arkansas
Brodie Johnston has been one of Vanderbilt's best players this season, hitting .370 with five home runs, but he was not in the lineup against Central Arkansas. Fellow sophomore Rustan Rigdon was also out of the lineup.
"They're not here," Corbin said. "They'll be back tomorrow."
The Commodores face Troy on March 4 (3 p.m. CT, SEC Network+).
